Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS)

METAS is the Federal Metrology Institute (NMI) of Switzerland located in Bern. The Laboratory Optics addresses all issues related to the measurement and evaluation of optical radiation. It is responsible for national realization of the basic unit Candela and guarantees with its instruments and measurement procedures for high-precision measurements traceable to a primary radiometric realization in the whole optical wavelength range. The calibration and measurement services are internationally recognized and help industry and research partners in their quest for reliable and accurate measurement. Laboratory Optics is involve in numerous research projects (national and international) related to light and lighting. METAS is very active in international standardization organizations and is currently heading CIE (until Sep 2023) and several CIE Technical Committees.
